Name-Based Case Searches
Michigan’s public case-history tool is MiCOURT Case Search. Pick the court before typing anything. The direct D97-3 MiCOURT search scopes the query to Keweenaw’s 97th District Court, which is the right starting point for district civil, misdemeanor, small-claims, and traffic cases. Circuit and probate files may need the full court selector. A call to the clerk works too. One caution applies: MiCOURT runs name searches and case-number searches as separate modes, so a partial name that returns nothing does not prove another court holds no file.
- Open MiCOURT and select the Keweenaw court scope that fits the matter.
- Enter Last Name or Business first, then add First or Middle Name only if results need narrowing.
- Add Birth Year only when the public form permits it, and use category, year, or date filters sparingly.
- Open the matching case history and compare its court, case number, status, and events with a court notice.
The search fields follow the public MiCOURT model and its official documentation. Court selection matters in Keweenaw County because circuit, district, and probate records sit with different offices.
| Field label | Type | Required | Keweenaw use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Court selector | Court selection | Required for a scoped search | Select D97-3 or use the full statewide selector. |
| Last Name or Business | Text | Required for name route | Practical starting field for a name search. |
| First/Middle Name | Text | Optional | Helps narrow shared surnames. |
| Birth Year | Year/text | Optional | Use only if the public interface allows it. |
| Case category or date | Filter | Optional | Use after selecting the court to reduce a broad result list. |
Note: A name search may list participant details differently than a number search. Compare the role and court shown before trusting a match.
Keweenaw MiCOURT Case Search Scope
The D97-3 entry is a focused route into a Keweenaw County search. It is not a county-built portal. It does not replace the statewide system. According to the MiCOURT public search, civil, traffic, criminal, domestic, and probate cases may appear depending on the participating court. A traffic citation, a small claim, or a run-of-the-mill misdemeanor starts in district court. The county district-court page reflects that. For a 12th Circuit or Probate result, use the full court selection.
Nothing here is a ruling. Keweenaw posts no separate local circuit or probate docket portal. Use the statewide search and then the right clerk. The 12th Circuit Court page and county court directory handle the local routing.
Note: A blank result can mean the wrong court was selected, online coverage is thin, or access is limited. It does not mean no file exists.
Case Number Searches
With a number in hand, a Keweenaw County docket is easy to pull. MiCOURT’s technical format is CaseYear-CaseNumber-CaseType, sometimes with a role number when participants need separate identification. The public model breaks the query into three parts. These are Year, Number, and Type. A case-number query can match a value contained in the number. Even a partial may return results. Keep the court selection attached to the number when you can.
Never guess at shorthand from a notice. Keweenaw publishes no clerk code sheet for abbreviations like MOT, ORD, or CONT. Read the full event text MiCOURT shows, and ask the court about anything unexplained. The court key reads D97~3 in the scoped URL string. It reads D97-3 in MiFILE material. Those are the same court, just system references.
Keweenaw Case Docket IDs
MiCOURT labels the chronological public record a case history or register of actions. The header lists the basics. These can include the court tenant, case number, filing date, type, caption, and status. Participants may show up with roles or numbers. Below that, the event list runs filings, orders, hearings, and outcomes in date order. A next-hearing entry helps with a quick date check. But a court notice and the clerk’s current record control a party’s own setting.
- Case history
- The dated register of actions recorded in the case.
- Court tenant
- The selected court-specific data scope, such as D97-3.
- Case status
- A lifecycle label such as open, disposed, deferred, or closed.
- Public status
- Whether the search system treats the case as public or suppressed.
Read the number and the status together. A near-identical case number in a different court can point to a different file. For document copies, use the clerk’s record-request procedure instead of treating the case-history screen as certified.
Case Search Results Explained
A MiCOURT result opens a window. It looks into the court’s case-history system. It may show the case number, case style, parties and roles, court, filing date, type, status, chronological events, disposition, and sometimes a next hearing or balance field. A next hearing or balance field may appear in some results as well. What actually displays varies by court and record category. A hit does not promise document images. Nor does it promise an unredacted filing or a certified copy. Ask the court office that keeps the file for those.
| Case number | The court identifier, commonly built from year, number, and type components. |
|---|---|
| Style and participants | The case caption and public party roles where the model exposes them. |
| Case type | A category such as civil, criminal, domestic, probate, non-traffic, or traffic. |
| Case history | Dated filings, orders, settings, and other recorded events. |
| Status and disposition | Current lifecycle label and any public outcome or closure event. |
| Access marker | Public or suppressed behavior, which is not a conclusion about the underlying matter. |
Note: The official search notice calls the online result information only. It does not replace the court’s official record.
Keweenaw Docket Filing Login
Two state systems serve Keweenaw County, and they don't overlap. MiFILE's TrueFiling login handles electronic filing for authorized filer accounts. It is not a free public viewer. So skip it if you only want to read a Keweenaw court docket. The state's available-courts information lists Keweenaw D97-3 and the Keweenaw Probate Court. That listing is about where filers can file. Creating a filer account just to browse case history is a detour. Turn to MiCOURT for the publicly displayed docket. Then call the clerk for copies, certification, or any access question.
The official MiFILE login screen shows the filer-account entry point. It is not a public case-history search.

The distinction matters whenever a Keweenaw docket search needs a record view rather than a filing workflow.
Two Ways to Search: County and State
Keweenaw County offers two routes into a court docket. Neither one is a county-built database covering every court. When a case belongs to 97th District Court, start with D97-3. When the court is unknown, or the matter may sit in the 12th Circuit Court or Probate Court, use the statewide court selection instead. Each route returns informational case history. Both feed the same Keweenaw County court docket. For the official file, each road leads back to the court clerk.
| Search route | Coverage | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| Keweenaw D97-3 scope | 97th District Court tenant | Known district, traffic, misdemeanor, small-claims, or district civil case. |
| MiCOURT full search | Participating Michigan courts | Unknown court, circuit, probate, or cross-court search. |
| Court clerk | Official file for the court that maintains it | Current confirmation, old file, copy, certification, or access question. |
The MiCOURT case-search landing page provides the statewide starting point and its public-record notice.

Use the statewide page whenever a Keweenaw case search cannot be pinned to D97-3 with confidence.
Keweenaw Case Search Filters
MiCOURT's technical materials identify filters for type or category, case year, status, public status, and judge or jurist. Filing date, offense date, disposition date, and sorting round out the list. The public screen may not show every one of those. Begin broad, so the Keweenaw County docket entry and its case number surface first. Then trim a long result list with category, year, or dates. Skip the full date of birth unless the public form asks for it. Michigan Judiciary's case-search documentation lists the official search inputs. It also names the exact filters behind the Keweenaw docket search.

Those documented fields narrow a Keweenaw case search without turning the public case-history view into an identity database.
Keweenaw Case Search Fallback
If MiCOURT returns nothing usable, check the court scope, the spelling, and the number. Check the filters too. A second pass fixes many failed Keweenaw docket searches. If it still comes up empty, call 906-337-2229 for district or circuit routing. For Probate, call 906-337-1927. Ask whether public history exists, whether the case predates online coverage, and whether a public paper or archived search is offered. The clerk can explain access status without disclosing restricted content.
Which Cases Stay Restricted
Michigan's public MiCOURT notice lists categories that stay hidden. Adoption is one, along with juvenile and CPS matters. The rest include juvenile guardianships, mental-health cases, name changes, PPO-related categories, certain parental-waiver matters, surrendered-newborn matters, infectious-disease cases, extreme-risk protection orders, young-adult foster-care matters, and wills. Court rules also govern protected identifiers. Dates of birth, financial-account data, and certain identification numbers get that treatment. A public case header can stay visible while a sealed document or portion stays hidden. Michigan Court Rules draw lines between confidential, nonpublic, and sealed material. A clean-slate eligible conviction may be off limits to an unauthorized private user. District-court records for felony cases bound over on or after July 2, 2024 also receive nonpublic treatment after bindover. That status depends on the receiving circuit case's classification. A no-result search in the Keweenaw County criminal docket may not say why. The screen does not name the restriction at work.
Access rule: MCR 8.119 governs public court-record access. Ask the appropriate Keweenaw clerk about the access status of a case, rather than requesting confidential contents through a general county-records channel.
For an older, missing, or restricted Keweenaw County case record, call 906-337-2229 for circuit or district routing. Probate takes 906-337-1927. Ask whether public history exists, whether the matter sits in a different court, and whether a redacted public copy can be provided.
